Of course, up until fairly recently this speculation has been easily dismissed by calling to attention the fact that there is no audience participation in the script of Hamlet. In 1991, however, a somewhat inebriated freshman discovered a page of a long-lost script of the tragic play, in which Hamlet's famous dramatic monologue was recorded. This script proved to be unique in that prompts for audience participation were written in parentheses and boldface. At times, the audience participation was supposed to be shouted over Hamlet's own lines, and was written in boldface capitals. Consequently, it is now believed that either William Shakespeare plagiarized this play, for which he may be given a job by the New York Times, or the Elizabethan audience simply couldn't remember any lines.
The soliloquy, now believed to be the actual soliloquy recited in Elizabethan England, is available on the t-shirts and posters below. Buy one for your favorite English major or Rocky Horror fan today!
